The Evolution of German Art Song

Art Song is a genre of Western classical chamber music that fuses poetry and music, typically composed for the duo of voice and piano. Soprano and Teaching Artist Ann Moss leads this series of six interactive seminars tracing the evolution of German-language Art Song (or Lieder) from its early development into the mid-20th century.

Each meeting features roughly thirty minutes of guided listening, framed by contextual background on the composers, poets and musical material, with opportunities for questions and group discussion. Participants are welcome to drop in to individual sessions as desired, or join for all six meetings.
